Joshua Tree NP The photo speaks for itself, "Entering Joshua Tree National Park"! We came in from the South Entrance (off I-10), which ended up being very fortunate since it put us at Cottonwood Springs campground first.

Whimsical ocotillo trees No wonder Dr. Seuss seemed like he had such an active imagination...
|

With red flowers against the desert sky We were lucky enough to be there just as all the desert flowers came into bloom!

Setting up camp at Cottonwood Springs campground The photo makes it look like we're out in the middle of the desert with no one else around :-). Luckily for us, we got one of the few remaining sites in the *entire* park that day!

Our beautiful new North Face tent In fact, we were camping in a developed campsite, with an RV (caravan) parked just across the road from us. Too bad! But we had good views from our tent facing the other way.

Cactus blooms And if you look carefully, a lizard is lounging on the cactus branches.

Pretty flowers

Very unfriendly cholla cactus Which dug into Yu-Han's leg when he brushed against it... later we would be told that these cacti are often called "jumping cholla"

Ocotillo in the desert landscape And serving as Yu-Han's headpiece too :-)

A poofy looking oddity was actually a tree or bush completely covered by a vining plant...

A big ocotillo! In the "Ocotillo Patch"
|

Fuzzy-looking jumping chollas From our previous experience, we knew there was nothing fuzzy about them at all! They're called jumping chollas b/c people jump at the pain of being pricked, and the fact the cacti "jump" a ride of the person's legs!
