We have a different idea about photo sharing than folks like Ofoto, Yahoo, and the like.
We don't try to make money by only allowing you to see diminutive versions of your photos online, thus
forcing you and your friends to buy prints to actually see your pictures. We don't try clutter up
your albums with ads, or your inbox with spam. With a Fotofinity account, your photos get the
treatment they deserve. And so do you! We've designed the site to focus on better photo viewing,
better sharing features, and better archiving. We also let you buy prints, but its not our main goal.
We want your photos to look great, and for you to have fun sharing your photos with your friends!
:: Supersize Me!
There's something unsatisfying about seeing a 448x336 picture on Ofoto when you know the original size was 1600x1200. Its like seeing
an anthill instead of Mount McKinley. At Fotofinity, we want your photos to look good, to look great! No more
honey-I-shrunk-the-photos; we want to be able to see the wildflowers dotting the hillside, the dimple on baby's cheek,
all those little details that make photos such fun to see! So, we offer you and your visitors a wide choice of photo viewing sizes:
- The full-size original: Perfect for your 21" monitor friends
- Normal 800x600: A good size for most people. Thats FOUR TIMES the viewing area of Ofoto.
- Thumbnail 180x135: Even our thumbnails look better!
- Custom size: Best thing about Fotofinity is that you can set a photo to be displayed any size you want!
Don't worry. All photos are zero calorie.
:: Customize
You'll get your own web address, http://fotofinity.com/your_username, where all your publicly viewable albums will
be accessible.
You'll be able to set the colors for the background and text in your albums(*). Bright pink with purple text? You're the boss!
You'll be able to design your own page layouts and use them for your albums(*). Or, check out layouts that other
users have designed and contributed, and save some effort by using them instead of designing your own!
:: Set a good example. Share!
Do you get hard-to-remember links from friends to their photo albums? Or, even worse, do they send you photos as email
attachments? Well, show them the proper way to do it, and share your photos with them via Fotofinity!
With Fotofinity's quick & easy sharing mechanism, you can show off all your pretty pictures in a flash.
But the best thing is that all your shared Kodak moments will always be there for you. With
our new "FriendNet" feature(*), you can quickly see all the birthday parties, road trips, wild all-nighters that you've had the pleasure of sharing with each of your friends. Even if the photos weren't yours. As long as your friend has
shared the album with you, all you have to do is check your FriendNet to find your friend, and you'll get
all the albums you've shared with them, and all the albums they've shared with you!
And our Ph.D.'s in the R&D Dept. don't stop there either.
We then do a transitive presence calculation to see if there are additional moments you've shared
together that neither of you caught on "film". Let's say Teresa shares photos of
your roadtrip together with you, and then also shares the photos with Veronica, Wendy, and Xavier, who also came along. Then
if you look up Wendy in your FriendNet, the roadtrip will show up as a shared experience you had with Wendy even though
neither of you were responsible for uploading the photos!
So, don't just share, share nicely. Share transitively!
:: The power of sharing
We all know its good to share. But Fotofinity doesn't just let you share photos. If you want, you can allow
your friends to help edit the album, revise captions and descriptions, or add more photos. If you'd rather not,
then its easy to disable that feature. Or, if you want to let your friends share your album with their
friends, you can let them. Again, if you'd rather not, you can disallow it.
:: Got some embarassing photos?
Then don't worry about putting them online, because only you will be able to see them. Simply set the album to "private".
Want only your special someone to see a particular album? Then share it with that one person. Only they will
be able to log in and see the photos. No one
else will be able to see you as a tubby naked baby.
Of course, if you're a real exhibitionist, then you can also set your albums to be publicly viewable by
anyone on the web. For this purpose, we give you your own web address, http://fotofinity.com/your_username, where
you can share photos with the world to your heart's content.
:: Never get lost again
If you've owned a digital camera for over a year, you might be starting to experience what we
call Widgkasa! or, where the heck are those photos from our trip to Kalamazoo? Inevitably, when
you have over 1000 photos on your computer, they get lost in a rat's nest of subdirectories.
Store them on Fotofinity, and you can organize them all in one place. Better yet, you can sort them
by date, or you can search for specific albums by simply typing in a keyword.
Kalamazoo, and you're there!
:: Be on the go!
If you have a mobile phone with a built-in camera, you can upload your photos wirelessly! Simply use your phone
to email the photo to <your username>@fotofinity.com! They'll show up in your Fotofinity inbox. Or, if you
want them to appear in a specific album, just email them to <Album ID>@fotofinity.com.
For example, let's say you're on vacation and want folks back home to determine whether a mushroom you've found in the
woods is edible or not. Email the photo to your publicly viewable vacation album, and tell them to check it out for you!
It could be the difference between dinner and starving! ;-)
:: Not just photos
The digital age is advancing, and almost all cameras allow you to take short video clips now. So,
on Fotofinity, everything you can do with your photos, you can also do with your videos. There are
even some extra things you can do. For example, if you want to capture a still from your video,
you can generate an album that shows your video as a sequence of still photos. Cool huh?
(*) Some of these features are still under beta-testing and may not yet be available on the site currently. But don't worry, they're already coded and being tested on our development server, so you'll see them very soon. They might already be online as you read this! Yup, we got some awesome genetically engineered code monkeys working away in the backroom. ;-)
